The Jewel Studded Golden Throne is on display at Mysore Palace, open for public viewing until October 21.

The throne comprises a main seat, steps leading to the main seat and a golden umbrella, all of which are attached through an interlocking mechanism and installed as one piece during the Navaratri festivities that will commence on October 12. A 24-verse Sanskrit “sloka” has been engraved on the rim of the umbrella addressed to Krishnaraja Wadiyar III, making references to his ancestors.

Heritage Walk
From 13th October to 18th October 2007 for six days in the morning from 7.30 am to 9.00 am.  Heritage walk is aimed at showcasing the historical and architectural heritage of the buildings, circles and statues of Mysore city to Tourists.

Heritage walk starts at 7.30 am from Town hall and concludes at Chamarajendra Technical Institute (Cauvery Emporium) on Sayyaji Rao Road at 9 am via Silver Jubilee Clock Tower, Chamarajendra Circle, Mysore Palace, Krishnarajendra Hospital, Mysore Medical College and Ayurvedic Hospital.  For further details please contact

Dasara Gold Card

The Dasara Gold Card holders can get free entry from Oct. 12 to 21 into the Palace, Zoo, KRS, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Nagarahole Wildlife Sanctuary, Dasara Exhibition, special entry at Chamundi Temple, Musical Concerts at Palace, Dance programmes at Jaganmohan Palace, film shows at theatres, drama competitions at Kalamandira and sports meet.
The gold card can also be used to get a 50% discount on tickets to G R S Fantasy Park.

Illumination timings of Brindavan Gardens at Krishnaraja Sagar has been extended from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm from Oct. 19 to 23.

The entry to the Gardens is open to the tourists and public on all the days from Oct. 1 to 31.

The illumination timings are from 6.30 pm to 7.25pm from Monday to Friday and from 6.30 pm to 8.25 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Entry to the tourists will be restricted half an hour before the closing of illumination.


Pet animals show which includes mixed breed calves, sheep and goat is arranged in Kuppanna Park near Hardinge Circle at 9 am on Oct. 13, and dog, cat, birds and others pet animals show at 8 am on Oct. 14 under the auspices of Dasara Festivities Committee and Department of Animal Husbandry.

Best animals will be awarded as per the recommendations of the veterinary experts.

Arrangements are being made to watch the Dasara events on big screens, to be set up in 12 extensions of Mysore city.

Yuva Dasara will be held at the Open Air theatre in Manasagangotri.


Musical nite along with the singers of the popular ETV programme Ede Thumbi Haaduvane, will be an added attraction of this year's Yuva Dasara.

"Local artistes will be given an opportunity to perform for 2 days. Colorful illumination of city parks, art fair by the artistes of CAVA and a Book Exhibition in association with Kannada Book Authority have also been arranged".

"Cultural programmes in association with the Tourism Department at Somanathapura and Srirangapatna will also be organised"

Film festival

Art-acclaimed and award winning films will be screened at 9 theatres in city. With the help of Mysore Film Society, films of International repute will also be screened

There will be a separate lane to sell Mysore Brands like Mysore Sandal Soap, Mysore Mallige (Jasmine), Mysore Silk, Nanjangud Rasabale and other Mysore items.

Dasara elephants in City

The cynosure of all eyes, the Naada Habba or people's festival that is Dasara is incomplete without the Elephants presence and what is more, each one of them have a characteristic feature that is remarkable and evokes admiration.
The first batch of six Dasara elephants, the major attraction of the festivities District in-charge Minister G.T. Devegowda flagged of the Gaja Payana (journey of jumbos) at Veeranahosahalli, the main entrance of Nagarahole National Park.
H.S. Muralidhar, a priest and journalist, performed Gana Homa in the morning at the Ganesha Temple located at the Veeranahosahalli Gate and performed puja to the caparisoned elephants.
Deputy Commissioner N.S. Chennappagowda, Commissioner of Mysore City Corporation and MUDA P. Manivannan, Assistant Commissioner M.R. Ravi, ZP President Rajamma, Hunsur Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) A.K. Singh and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
The batch includes howdah elephant Balarama, Pattada Aane Gajendra, Bharatha, Arjuna, Sarala and Varalakshmi. The elephants were brought from Moorkal, Sunkadakatte and Balle elephant camps in Nagarahole after tribals offered a farewell puja to the elephants at their respective camps.

Second batch elephant Harsha and Vikrama from Dubare, Sri Rama, Abhimanyu, Sarala and Kanti from Sunkadakatte, K. Gudi and Thithimathi forests arrived at Doddakere Maidan.

Sri Rama: This male elephant aged 50 years was captured by pit method in 1969. Sri Rama having experience of 10 years in Dasara, participates in puja rituals along with the chief elephant (Pattada Aane) of Palace. Thithimathi camp of Nagarahole National Park is its dwelling.

Abhimanyu: This male elephant aged 41 years was captured from Hebballa forest and has an experience of 9 years in Dasara including the present. The elephant brought from Thithimathi camp is given the responsibility of pulling the elephant cart during Dasara.

Vikrama: Aged 35 years, it was brought from Dubare camp and was captured from Dodda-betta forest in 1990. This is the sixth time, Vikrama is participating in Dasara.

Harsha: Captured from Doddabetta forest in 1990 and brought from Dubare camp, it is participating in Dasara for the eighth time.


Kavi Gosti
Poets meet to be held for 5 days which includes Hasyayotsava a 4 hour limerick fare. 
Chiguru Kavigosti having poets below 20 years and
Aralu Kavigosti having poets above 20 years. 
Young poets have been asked to send in 2 poems to the panel for participating in Chutuku Kavi Gosti in 10 pieces before October 5.

Round-the-clock bus service in city during Dasara

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will provide 24-hour bus service in the city for the benefit of visiting tourists and other commuters during the forthcoming Dasara festivities from Oct. 12 to 21.

Dasara Sports :

Dasara Sports event in Mysore this year will be held between Oct. 12 and 18 and will be grander than the previous years

Karate championships will be held from Oct 12 to 14 at Chamundi Vihar Stadium.

State and National wrestling matches will be held between Oct. 15 and 18 at Devaraja Urs Multipurpose Ground at the Dasara Expo Complex. Boarding and others facilities will be provided to the wrestlers.

The half marathon of 21.1 km for men and women will being at 8 am on Oct 16 from Palace North gate along with the 12 km run for college boys, 6 km for girls, 6 km for high school boys and 3 km for high school girls.

Adventure sports will be held from Oct. 15 to 17 at Chamundi Vihar Stadium, which includes artificial wall climbing. The competition of climbing the steps of Chamundi Hill will be held on Oct. 16. The cycle race will be held separately for men and women. The race for men will he held on Oct 17 from Vidhana Soudha, Bangalore to Tollgate, Mysore and for women it will be from Hunsur Municipal Office premises upto toll gate both the races will begin at 6 am.

Athletics and kho-kho, handball, kabaddi, ball-badminton, basket ball, volley ball and gymnastics will be held from Oct. 15 to 17 at Chamundi Vihar Stadium. Hockey tournament for men and women, table-tennis, badminton, weight-lifting and foot ball for men will be held at University Sports grounds.

Swimming contests will be held on Oct 16 and 17 at the University Swimming pool.

Tickets for viewing the Vijaydashmi / Dasara Procession and the Torchlight parade on October 21st 2007 will be sold at KSRTC suburban bustand, Mysore Urban Development Authority, Bal Bhavan, Mysore City Corporation, Mysore Palace North and South Gates, Mysore Visitor Information Counters at Hotel Hoysala and near the Zoo.
